How our contactless pickup works at Hobart Airport

Landing in Hobart shouldn’t mean standing in a queue while your holiday ticks away on the arrivals board. That’s the whole idea behind Drive Car Hire’s contactless pickup at Hobart Airport (HBA).

Why go contactless?

No counter, no paperwork shuffle on arrival, no waiting for staff members to free up. Here’s exactly how it works, and how it stacks up against the other ways to get a car at HBA.

The process: a step-by-step

When you book with us, all of these instructions are sent beforehand. So, no worries – you won’t have to memorise the steps.

  1. Sort your paperwork before you fly
    • Your rental agreement and licence verification happen online ahead of time so that no admin is waiting for you at the airport.
  2. A short walk
    • Once you land at Hobart Airport and have collected your bags, you won’t need to line up at a terminal counter.
    • Exit the terminal, walk past the other rental car offices, and cross at the pedestrian crossing just after the SkyBus stop.
    • Your vehicle is just a 2-3 minute walk away!
  3. Grab your keys from the lockbox
    • We send personalised pickup instructions, including the code you need, straight to your inbox.
    • Find your lockbox, punch in the code, and take your keys.
  4. Locate your car
    • We guarantee that the car you book is the car you get – so you’ll recognise it immediately!
  5. And you’re off!
    • Enjoy Tasmania and feel free to reach out anytime; we’re here for you for operational questions as well as road tripping tips.

We run around the clock

Because there’s no human handoff required at our Hobart Airport pickup, you can grab your car at any hour, even if the terminal desks are closed for the night. If your flight is delayed, your car is still there waiting, as we track your flight details to stay on top of timing.

That’s the Drive Car Hire difference!

How about returns?

A Jetstar flight is centred in an evening sky, with the moon peeking through some clouds as the plane ascends. Taken by Rob Burnett for Launceston Airport.

Returns work the same way in reverse: drop the car off whenever suits your flight, place your keys in the lockbox, and you’re ready to go.

No need to time it around opening hours. We hope to see you soon again here in Tassie!

Worth knowing before you land

A few quick things that make the Tasmanian roads easier once you’re behind the wheel:

  • Driving is on the left
  • Speed limits are strictly enforced
  • You only overtake on the right
  • Roundabouts and unmarked intersections give way to the right
  • If your licence isn’t in English, carry an International Driving Permit or accredited translation

And… keep en eye out for wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk. This is one of the more distinctly Tasmanian hazards out there.

If you see this cute creature, watch out! Although very cute, the wombat (Vombatus Ursinus Tasmaniensis) can be a bit feisty.
